ISLAMABAD: In a new development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also acknowledged contributions of Mr Muhammad Ali, Advisor to PM on Privatization as an active member of Task Force on Power for uncovering Rs100 billion in excess payments to Independent Power Plants (IPPs) and successful negotiation with over 35 IPPs and termination of 6 contracts resulting in saving of Rs3600 billion.
The appreciation letter by PM to Mr Muhammad Ali written on August 6, 2025 after the lapse of 7 days as the Premier earlier on July 30 applauded Federal Minister for Power Mr Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari in its appreciation letter for bringing down the circular debt by Rs780 billion to Rs1614 billion from Rs2381 billion.
However, earlier in the letter to the Federal Minister for Power Mr Sardar WAis Ahmed Khan Leghari, written by the PM on July 30, 2025, there was no mention about the contribution of task Force members in power sector reforms and their result-oriented tough negotiations with over 35 IPPs including termination of 6 contracts which also helped saved Rs3600 billion.
Now on August 6, 2025, the Premier has also acknowledged the role of Mr Muhammad Alvi and sought his continued support in delivering affordable and sustainable energy for the people of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister lauded Mr Mahammad Ali for his efforts in recovering Rs35 billion in excess profits and reducing the annualized costs by nearly Rs200 billion have restored fiscal discipline and reinforced the sector’s long-term sustainability. Ends
