ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed senior bureaucrat Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, a BS-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, as Secretary of the Petroleum Division, according to an official notification issued on Thursday.
The notification, issued by the Establishment Division of the Cabinet Secretariat, stated that Sheikh has been transferred from his previous position as Secretary of the National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Division and posted as Secretary Petroleum with immediate effect and until further orders.
The appointment will be published in the next issue of the Weekly Gazette of Pakistan, Part-I, as part of the government’s official record of senior administrative postings.
As Secretary Petroleum, Sheikh will oversee policy matters related to Pakistan’s oil and gas sector, including coordination with regulatory authorities, state-owned energy companies, and private oil marketing firms. The Petroleum Division is responsible for formulating policies for exploration, production, refining, and distribution of petroleum products and natural gas across the country.
The posting comes at a time when the government is closely monitoring the energy sector and fuel supply chain amid regional developments and market fluctuations.
The notification was issued by Mahmood ul Hassan, Deputy Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, and copies have been forwarded to relevant departments, including the Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press, for publication and record. Ends
