ISLAMABAD: The government has officially notified the appointment of Mr. Shahzad Iqbal, Member (Gas) at the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), as Vice Chairman. He will officiate as Acting Chairman until a regular chairman is appointed.
The tenure of former OGRA Chairman, Mr. Masroor Khan, expired on February 19, 2026. The government took 11 days to designate Mr. Iqbal as Vice Chairman following the completion of Mr. Khan’s term.
An important hearing scheduled for March 2 regarding dollar-based returns on a multi-million-dollar oil pipeline project was deferred. The proposed pipeline is to be laid from Machikay in Faisalabad to Tarujabba in Peshawar.
According to a notification issued on March 3, 2026 (Tuesday), in terms of Section 3(13) of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Ordinance (No. XVII of 2002), the Federal Government has designated Mr. Shahzad Iqbal, Member (Gas), as Vice Chairman, OGRA, with effect from February 23, 2026. The notification further stated that upon the appointment of a regular Chairman, Mr. Shahzad Iqbal shall cease to hold the office of Vice Chairman. Ends
