ISLAMABAD: New gas connection seekers in domestic and commercial sectors will be provided imported gas — RLNG at 31.25 percent cheaper than that of LPG. So the new gas consumers will not be treated at par with present residential consumers who have 12 categories in terms of slabs.
Pakistan faces the RLNG glut in the country and the authorities want to extend the imported gas to new gas connection seekers across the country, a senior official privy to the development told Exclusive.com.pk.
The government has decided to lift the ban on gas connections imposed since 2021. The RLNG price is still 20-25 percent lower than the LPG price. And more importantly, the RLNG will be a piped gas. The summary to this effect has been sent to CCOE (Cabinet Committee on Energy) for approval. The Prime Minister has already approved this initiative in principle and asked the Petroleum Division to pitch the summary in CCOE for approval. After CCOE approval, the media campaign would also be launched to persuade the people to utilize the RLNG instead of LPG, as the RLNG price stands at Rs3300 per MMBtu whereas the LPG price stands at Rs4800 per MMBtu showing the RLNG price is Rs1500 per MMBtu cheaper. The use of LPG cylinder, sometimes, is proven detrimental for the lives because of the cylinder’s poor quality. The utensils become black because of LPG use because of low-quality liquid gas, however, the RLNG is a quality gas and even better than the country’s natural gas.
“We have 3.2 million applications seeking domestic gas connections. As many as 300,000 connection seekers have paid demand notice connection charges. Out of them, 5000-6000 have paid urgent fee of Rs 25000 each. For domestic applicants living in 10-marla house, the fee will be Rs21000 and for those living above 10-marla house, the fee will be at Rs23000. Once the gas connection process completes, the security deposit of Rs20000 will also be paid on the contract signing time. Those who have paid some amount earlier will have to pay the differential.”
“In the first year, we are expecting that 300,000 applicants will be supplied imported gas of which the price is the dollar based product and in the second year, the connections will be enhanced to 600000.”
“In 2017, 30000 gas connections were given in 2017 in 300 societies consuming just 1mmcfd LNG.” Ends
