ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has partnered with French specialty chemical giant SNF S.A. to install advanced Water Injection Systems (WIS) at its Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields in Sindh, a move expected to generate $460 million in additional revenue.

The landmark agreement, signed at OGDC Headquarters in Islamabad, was witnessed by Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik, OGDC MD/CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, and French Ambassador Nicolas Galey. The project aims to enhance reservoir pressure, increase oil and gas recovery, and ensure sustainable production using world-class water injection technology.

The rollout will occur in three phases: a nine-month installation and commissioning period, followed by two years of operations and maintenance with SNF training OGDC staff, before full technology transfer to OGDC. The system is designed for a 20-year operational life.

The initiative is expected to boost oil output by 9 million barrels and gas production by 3 billion cubic feet, raising the recovery factor of the fields by 8–10%. Besides economic benefits, reinjecting treated produced water into reservoirs promotes environmental safety and aligns with sustainable practices.

This collaboration underscores OGDC’s commitment to operational excellence, technology adoption, and long-term value creation in Pakistan’s energy sector through strategic global partnerships. Ends
