Doha, Qatar – During a three-day official visit to Doha, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Mr. Ali Parvaiz Malik, met with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, H.E. Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, to discuss deepening energy cooperation and addressing current energy sector challenges.
Expressing gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Qatari government, Mr. Malik acknowledged the “warmth, love, and deep respect” that Qatar continues to show toward Pakistan. He emphasized the significance of the long-standing historic ties between the two nations, particularly in the areas of energy and economic cooperation.
The Pakistani Minister commended his Qatari counterpart for his proactive role in strengthening bilateral relations, stating that he “highly valued the efforts made to elevate the strategic energy partnership to new heights.”
In light of Pakistan’s evolving energy landscape, Mr. Malik highlighted pressing issues stemming from a current LNG surplus and a significant decline in domestic gas consumption. He raised Pakistan’s request to defer delivery of 177 LNG cargoes, which have become surplus and are now projected to be excess supply over the next five years, particularly beyond 2030.
The discussions underscored both nations’ commitment to working together in navigating global energy market shifts and ensuring mutual benefits from their cooperation. Ends
