ISLAMABAD: In a high-stakes crackdown, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has busted a sophisticated crude oil theft ring and uncovered an illegal refinery in Tando Allahyar, exposing a major threat to Pakistan’s energy infrastructure.
Officials said the network was siphoning crude oil by illegally tapping the Kunnar Pasakhi Deep (KPD)-TAY pipeline near Tando Jam. The stolen oil was transported to a covert refinery, processed, and pushed into the local market.
Acting on weeks of surveillance launched in January 2026, OGDC—working alongside police and intelligence agencies—pinpointed the theft sites and tracked down the illicit facility in the Siri area of New Hyderabad City.
A coordinated raid involving multiple police units and OGDC teams led to the recovery of large quantities of stolen crude and refining equipment. The suspects fled the scene, abandoning vehicles and motorcycles, while authorities seized trucks loaded with stolen oil.
Police have booked alleged ringleader Wazir Daudani and several accomplices. OGDC has called for stringent action under the Anti-Terrorism Act, terming the operation a serious attack on critical national infrastructure.
The bust is being seen as a major win for authorities, preventing significant financial losses and reinforcing efforts to secure Pakistan’s energy assets amid mounting economic pressure.Ends
