KARACHI Just a week after dismantling an illegal electricity theft network in Karachi’s SITE area, K-Electric (KE) has carried out another targeted enforcement operation after miscreants resumed power theft from a loadshed-exempted industrial feeder.
According to KE, its advanced data monitoring systems detected renewed losses on the feeder within days of the earlier crackdown, triggering immediate action by the utility’s governance teams in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
KE officials said the earlier operation had dismantled infrastructure being used to illegally siphon electricity from an industrial feeder. However, the same elements swiftly restored theft through underground cables, forcing the utility to return to the area for a second enforcement drive.
As in previous operations, KE teams faced resistance on the ground. Mobs reportedly gathered to obstruct the operation, while miscreants involved in what KE described as chronic electricity theft resorted to violence and issued threats, including towards media personnel present to cover the enforcement action.
Despite the resistance, KE teams successfully disconnected the underground cables being used for theft, with support from security and law enforcement agencies.
“These illegal networks severely compromise system reliability, increase commercial losses, and pose serious safety hazards to surrounding communities,” a KE spokesperson said. “They also damage our infrastructure and disrupt electricity supply for law-abiding, paying consumers.”
KE stated that such operations are regularly carried out in areas where repeated attempts are made to prevent enforcement teams from performing their duties.
Reaffirming its stance, the utility said it remains committed to eliminating electricity theft and safeguarding critical power infrastructure across its service territory. KE added that strict action against power theft will continue in close coordination with law enforcement agencies. Ends
