KARACHI: K-Electric Limited (KE) has appointed Syed Taha as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), replacing interim chief Adeeb Ahmad, with effect from April 15, 2026, the company announced on Tuesday.

Taha, an energy sector professional with extensive leadership experience, holds an engineering degree and an MBA in Finance from Institute of Business Administration Karachi.

He has been serving as Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil Company Limited (PSO) since February 2020, where he oversaw operations at the country’s largest oil marketing company during a period marked by market volatility and structural reforms in the energy sector.

Before joining PSO, Taha worked as Executive Director at Oasis Energy, where he led the Programme Management Office for the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria, gaining international experience in power distribution and utility management.

He is also no stranger to KE, having previously served as Chief Distribution Officer, where he was responsible for overseeing the utility’s distribution network, loss reduction initiatives, and service delivery improvements. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior leadership roles across the energy and power sectors, building expertise in both upstream and downstream operations as well as electricity distribution.

Taha’s appointment comes at a critical time for KE, which supplies electricity to Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub, and continues to face challenges related to transmission losses, recovery, infrastructure investment, and growing demand.

Industry observers say his cross-sector experience—spanning oil marketing, power distribution, and international utility operations—positions him well to lead KE through its next phase of operational and strategic transformation.

The leadership change is part of KE’s broader effort to strengthen governance and enhance performance as the utility seeks to improve service reliability, reduce losses, and align with Pakistan’s evolving energy landscape.
