ISLAMABAD: In a decisive action, Customs authorities at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) have uncovered large-scale misuse of the Green Channel Facility, seizing 615 metric tons of misdeclared goods valuing Rs196 million, with a revenue loss of Rs. 100 million to the national exchequer.
Acting on credible information from the Chief Collector Customs Appraisement (South), Karachi, Collector Customs Appraisement West Karachi identified a scheme where high-value goods including soya beans, almonds and betels nuts among others were falsely declared to evade duties and taxes.
Mr Jameel Nasir Chief Collector Customs Appraisement played pivotal role in identifying and seizing the misdeclared goods. Earlier he stopped the misuse of green channel and seized the misdeclared auto parts worth millions of rupees.
However, in a latest development, a consignment from M/s Al Noor Feed Industry (NTN: 7201201) was flagged for scanning, revealing discrepancies. Physical examination uncovered 9.9 metric tons of shelled almonds concealed behind layers of brown-eyed beans. Further inspections of shipments declared as rice husk exposed misdeclared animal feed, later confirmed by the Customs Laboratory.
Following these findings, 30 additional containers linked to the importer were examined, revealing further misdeclarations of goods imported from the UAE.
The total estimated market value of the seized goods is Rs. 196 million, with a revenue loss of Rs. 100 million to the national exchequer. A contravention case has been framed against M/s Al Noor Feed Industry, and an FIR has been lodged against the responsible individuals. Investigations are ongoing.
