ISLAMABAD: Amid peak winter demand, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Monday reviewed the country’s gas supply situation and winter load management measures, expressing satisfaction over improved gas availability for domestic consumers compared to last year.
Chairing a meeting on gas supply and consumer services, the Minister was briefed by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on steps taken to provide relief to households during the ongoing winter season. The companies informed the meeting that, in line with directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, gas supplies to domestic consumers had been enhanced to minimize public hardship.
According to the briefing, SNGPL supplied an additional 95 MMCFD of gas in December 2025 compared to the same period last year, while SSGC increased supplies by 32 MMCFD. The Minister noted that gas availability for households this winter had remained noticeably better than the previous season.
The meeting was also informed that IoT-based monitoring systems and Town Border Stations had been installed at tail-end points of the gas network to automatically trigger alerts in case of pressure drops. Appreciating the initiative, the Minister directed SSGC to further strengthen pressure management and alarm systems, particularly in low-pressure and tail-end areas, to ensure uninterrupted supply.
Emphasizing consumer welfare, the Minister stressed that public convenience must remain the top priority, directing both SUI companies to maintain adequate pressure levels and further improve customer service standards, especially for domestic users.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) presented its audit report on compliance with service standards for complaint handling. The audit revealed that 98.5% of consumer complaints in SNGPL and 97% in SSGC were resolved in accordance with regulatory benchmarks.
While appreciating the overall performance, the Minister instructed OGRA to verify complaint redressal on a quarterly basis and directed the SUI companies to ensure that the remaining complaints are resolved strictly in line with prescribed standards. He also ordered the introduction of a customer feedback mechanism after complaint resolution to enhance transparency and accountability.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister said the focus would remain on consumer relief, efficient service delivery, adoption of modern technology, and strict regulatory compliance in the gas sector.
