ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and its subsidiary Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME) signed a milestone agreement with the Government of Balochistan (GoB) for the Barite-Lead-Zinc (BLZ) project on April 8 at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF) 2025, held in Islamabad.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, and the Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, reflecting the national significance of the initiative. The agreement was signed by Mr. Imran Abbasy, Managing Director and CEO of PPL and Mr. Saeed Ahmad, CEO Balochistan Mineral Resources Limited on behalf of GoB, says a press release.
As a Strategic Partner of PMIF 2025, PPL actively showcased its growing presence in the mining sector through a dedicated and visually engaging booth, set up by BME. The stall attracted a large number of visitors, including government officials, foreign dignitaries, mining professionals, investors, academics, and media representatives.
A major highlight of PPL’s participation was the launch of a comprehensive Mineral Map of Pakistan, capturing the country’s immense mineral wealth—including industrial minerals, metals, rare-earth elements, and gemstones. The map drew widespread attention and appreciation from attendees for its clarity and depth.
The BLZ project represents a significant step forward in unlocking the mineral potential of Balochistan. Operated by BME, a longstanding joint venture with the GoB since 1974, the project promises to spur economic growth in Khuzdar through value addition, job creation, and infrastructure development.
This landmark agreement reaffirms the Government’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships for sustainable mineral development, positioning Pakistan as an emerging hub in the global mineral value chain. Ends
